Afterschool Tutoring

Students enrolled in the RCLC Afterschool program  receive an hour of one-on-one tutoring from trained college student volunteers, each day from Monday through Thursday. (Friday is an optional day; there will be educational activities, but not tutoring)

Tutoring sessions include skill based literacy instruction, guided reading, reading aloud, writing, and vocabulary. Lesson plans are aligned with state standards, and individual goals are developed for each child. There is also time for homework help. 

The RCLC believes that learning occurs best in the context of positive relationships, therefore tutors meet with the same students for the full semester (and sometimes for multiple semesters.)  A student will typically have  Monday-Wednesday tutor and a Tuesday-Thursday tutor.
