Become a part of the RCLC SAGE Team!

SAGE (Students for the Advancement of Global Entrepreneurship) teams are forming again this year at the RCLC! SAGE differs from the conventional youth entrepreneurship classes in several important ways.

  1. Objective: The RCLC strives to remain consistent with the declared mission of SAGE by becoming part of a “global community of teenage entrepreneurs—and their supporters—sharing a common purpose: to make the world a better place.”
  2. Format: Unlike the NFTE class, which focuses on individual wealth creation via entrepreneurship, the SAGE format emphasizes a collaborative approach. Students work in teams under the supervision of qualified mentors from the RCLC and the Notre Dame Entrepreneurship Club to put together a business venture that not earns money, but helps achieve a higher societal purpose at the same time.
  3. Scope: The business ventures launched in the SAGE class require a coordinated outreach to secure grant funding, make contact with other students and organizations overseas. Successful teams should expect to travel to various parts of the United States for competition in the SAGE USA contest. Those that advance beyond this contest should prepare to have passports ready for international travel to the SAGE World Cup, held each summer in a different region of the world. The last three World Cup competions were hosted by China, the Ukraine and Uganda.

Highly motivated students who are willing to work as a team, and use business skills to help make the world a better place should be a part of this worthy endeavor.

SAGE teams meet at the RCLC on Tuesdays, from 4-5:30 PM, starting the week of January 12, 2010. Interested high shool and middle school students should contact Luther Tyson at (574) 631-9435 or (574) 217-2399. Luther can also be reached via e-mail at Ltyson@nd.edu.
