Joint fire training June 22, 23 and 26 at former Robinson Center property

The Notre Dame and South Bend Fire Departments will conduct joint training exercises from 2 to 4 p.m. June 22, 23 and 26 on University-owned property at the corner of Howard and Eddy streets, two blocks south of campus in the Northeast Neighborhood.

The property includes the old Robinson Community Learning Center (RCLC) and the adjoining former Aldi store at 1016 E. Howard Street, one block west of South Bend Avenue. The buildings share a wide parking lot that will be used for staging.

The exercises are intended to simulate a real emergency. Engines and ladder trucks will be on-site and crews will be in and out of the buildings. Smoke machines will be used inside of the buildings. There will not be any fire.

Traffic will not be affected.

Both buildings, the former Aldi and the old RCLC, will be demolished soon to make way for future development as part of Eddy Street Commons, the mixed-use development south of Notre Dame.
