Annual Events

Throughout the year a number of TAKE TEN events take place:

TAKE TEN Bookmark Competition

Children in participating schools and community locations create and design TAKE TEN bookmarks. A winning bookmark is chosen from each site. Each bookmark has the name, school, and grade of the child who designed it on the back. The winning entries are then distributed to each child and teacher at the participating school or other location. Take Ten also holds an awards ceremony at the Robinson Community Learning Center to recognize all the winners and enjoy a time of food, entertainment and socializing.

TAKE TEN T-Shirt Art and Creative Writing Competition

Children are given the opportunity to design a TAKE TEN T-shirt or write a poem, short story, or essay on TAKE TEN and the impact that it has had on their school. A winning entry is chosen from each category and those are presented at the annual Take Ten Festival, held in early May. The overall winning artwork then becomes the design for that year’s new TAKE TEN T-shirt, which is sponsored by Notre Dame Federal Credit Union.

TAKE TEN Festival

All the children in grades 3-8, together with their teachers and TAKE TEN volunteers, who participated in TAKE TEN during the year, are invited to the festival, which is held in the Stepan Center at the University of Notre Dame. All the kids wear their new TAKE TEN T-shirts and the children participate in an afternoon filled with games, food, entertainment (Notre Dame’s First Class Steppers are the favorite!) and often a city representative such as the Mayor, the Superintendent of Schools, or Chief of Police addresses the children about the important steps they are taking toward non-violence.
